Roscommon Sports Partnership and Roscommon County Council are delighted to announce that Bike Week 2025 will take place from Saturday, May 10th, to Sunday, May 18th, with a full week of exciting events planned across the county. This celebration is proudly supported by Transport for Ireland and the Department of Transport.
Bike Week is a national celebration of cycling, highlighting the benefits of cycling for commuting, recreation, and fun. Events nationwide are organised by local authorities, community groups, schools, and cycling enthusiasts, promoting cycling as a healthy, sustainable, and accessible activity for all ages and abilities.
This year’s programme kicks off with a Vintage Bike Display in Roscommon Town from 11 am to 3 pm, inviting everyone to celebrate the evolution of cycling in Irish society. Also launching is our Bike Photo Competition, encouraging the public to capture the spirit of cycling during Bike Week.
Throughout the week, a wide range of activities will cater to all ages and interests:
- Bike Maintenance Workshops for adults in Lisnamult Sport & Activity Hub and the County Council Offices.
- Balance Bike Programmes and the new Balance-Ability Programme for young children, helping them develop the fundamental skills of balance and coordination to prepare for independent cycling.
- Disability Cycling Workshops for children, ensuring that cycling is accessible to everyone.
- Cycle to Work and Cycle to School initiatives encouraging sustainable transport choices.
- Cycle to the Shop Day and a Workplace Lunchtime Cycle at the County Council, making cycling part of everyday life.
- Adaptive Cycling Programme at CBS Roscommon Town, promoting inclusive cycling opportunities for children of all abilities.
These events are not just about cycling — they are about community, heritage, sustainability, and health. Cycling played a vital role in Irish history, transforming access to education, work, and social life. Today, it continues to offer countless benefits: improved fitness, reduced carbon emissions, and fun for families and individuals alike.
At Roscommon Sports Partnership, we prioritise cycling and cycle safety, offering popular cycling programmes such as CYCLE RIGHT. Led by experienced cycling tutors. CYCLE RIGHT aims to provide practical cycle safety and skills training to senior primary school classes.
For those unable to attend our events, Roscommon features two scenic cycleways worth exploring during Bike Week: the Boyle to Lough Key Cycle Route and the Green Heartlands. These routes cater to cyclists of all levels and offer breathtaking views along the way.
