Sport Ireland’s Women in Sport policy outlines its commitment to promoting and encouraging lifetime participation in physical activity/sport for women and girls.
According to the Irish Sports Monitor, 40.8% of females regularly participate in sport. The rate is increasing but there is still work to do. Roscommon Sports Partnership strives to play a part in this and provide opportunities to the women of Roscommon in accessing and getting involved in sport and physical activity.
This is achieved through continued collaboration with key partners to coordinate and deliver community programmes and initiatives that encourage participation, particularly for women and girls who are not routinely active.
In addition to promoting the nationwide Women in Sport Week and HER Outdoors Week, RSP also runs general women-focused programmes throughout the year such as Women’s Social Soccer, Women on Wheels and Women’s Introduction to the Gym programme.
